July 6th last night in the sub sahara
Today is our last day in the sub sahara. Getting our way to South Africa. Such an amazing day. We kayaked for about an hour hoping to make it the reef. We didn't make it but the paddle was beautiful. Came back then went for a walk up the coast. Stopped off at this bar. About 7 Indians were there. So funny they were. We then started back. We couldn't figure out what these women were doing. We saw all these sticks in the sand at low tide. Low and behold they are harvesting seaweed. We looked it up. Zanzibar exports seaweed to Norway and France. Norway processes it. The most is exported to Singapore where they re export it. They use the seaweed in pharmaceuticals and in many cosmetics. Later that afternoon we sat on the deck overlooking the Indian ocean. Last time we will see it for awhile. Definitely the last time we will ever swim in it. We then went to Kombo bar within the resort. It's called Kombo because these little animals look cross between a squirrel and a monkey. They are just adorable. The staff then takes us to our table. It is stunning. Can't think of imagine a better end to the first half of our journey. Tomorrow starts a whole new and very different chapter. South Africa and worlds beyond. Everyone has been absolutely wonderful yet again. That's why we travel!! Excited for tomorrow. The woman harvesting the seaweed was not photographed by me. Give credit where credit is due:)
