June 12 back in Nairobi
On our way back to Nairobi. Desperately needing a shower and laundry. We returned to the Acacia Tree Lodge where we began our journey. We accidentally went the wrong way into Nairobi. A bit unsettling locking our doors. Once we got close we went to cash in our dollars for shillings. I handed the guy $1000 in $100's. He took 5 of them and handed me back 5 of them. He said we don't take white 100's. They are too old and easy to counterfeit. So here we are with over $1000 in white 100's. Crazy. Then Wilson went to wash our rig. He negotiated a price of $750 shillings. 1 shilling equals 140 to one dollar. When he went to pay the guy said all they take is m-pesa. It's an electronic form of payment you put in your phone bypassing the banks. It's crazy!! It's more prominent than Apple pay!!
Once here we got all our laundry out to hand over to the front desk. Trust me it was a lot and dirty. About an hour later there was a knock on the door handing Wilson 2 $100 bills. They said they found it in his jeans. Mind you this is a poor country. It speaks volumes of the integrity of the people. So Wilson went back to the front desk and gave them $100 to to say thank you for your honesty. That's what I have enjoyed the most. Sure the animals are incredible in their natural habit but it's the people with their kindness and warmth. We have felt protected in each campsite every night. They are quick with a smile and a nod. So lucky to be able to experience this. Just taking it all in
